My name is Matthew Smith and I am a U.S Naval officer. I am from New York City, and just graduated from high school 3 months ago. I'm 18 and finally completed basic training and now I'm heading out with the American Naval force. We our heading over to Europe because of many reasons, but the overall picture is WWII. My squad of ships are staying out in the Atlantic to patrol the ocean, to look out for innocent conveys passing that could possibly gets attacked by 'German Wolf Packs'. These are groups of German naval submarines and planes that stealthily navigate through the Atlantic ocean, waiting for conveys coming from America to Britain, to bring them supplies. They sneak up and attack the convoys, almost always destroying it, and everyone and everything on it (Danzer). I remember hearing about how tragic this was, but at the same time how smart of a tactic it was. Firstly it stopped almost all trade with Britain, which hurt there economy, and especially hit hard considering they were about to enter a big portion of the war. It also intimidated many naval squads to enter the Atlantic, especially if they weren’t allied with Germany (Phillip). This also was another reason for America to enter war, due to how innocent passing ships were bing blowned to pieces, and some of those ships were American, and we are not going to take it (Phillip).
